Notes & Condition Report
A rare and interesting theatre token
Astley’s Amphitheatre, Westminster Bridge Road, Lambeth, was opened by Philip Astley in 1773
and is considered to be the home of the modern circus.
John Astley, to whom this token relates to, inherited the theatres after his father’s death in 1814.
As to who Charles Rich Esq is I don’t know, but presumably he was a regular theatre goer to have purchased this ticket,
or maybe he was an investor and given it as a thank you by John Astley?
There have been a number of Royalty Theatres in London and I don’t know to which one this related to.
There is a bit of lamination to the silver by the "r" in "General"
A slight dent above "Admission"
Otherwise good engraving and condition
Without repair
