The Prince of Wales, Albert Edward, was the eldest son of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert
becoming King, in 1901, of the United Kingdom, British Dominions & Emperor of India (Edward VII)
and married Alexandra of Denmark (Queen Alexandra)
Lady Cust's husband Sir Edward Cust was Master of Ceremonies for the wedding
At this point in time I have no idea who Mr W.S. Charles is;
presumably he must have done something special to help with the wedding, but probably not invited.
Hence this beautiful little box being specially commissioned for him by Lady Cust as a keepsake to commemorate this Royal event
There are no maker's marks on this 18ct gilt metal box, but I have no doubt it was made by the Royal goldsmiths Garrards
The piece of cake still easily resembles traditional fruit cake, to the degree it looks like it could be edible!
